WitEden Rainbow Plus Magic Cube is an extended version of the Rainbow Cube puzzle from WitEden. It was designed by You YuChun. The basic Rainbow Cube turns around its corners and is fairly easy to solve. The Plus version adds 2x2-style cuts, so you can also turn the puzzle by its faces. Combining these two types of moves makes solving it noticeably harder than the original.

How this puzzle works

The shape is an irregular solid with 14 faces. It has 8 corners and 24 edge pieces. A corner turn cycles the edges three at a time. A face turn works like a 2x2 move and scrambles the pieces in a completely different way. The moves themselves are simple, but you need to figure out how the two systems affect each other. According to people who have solved it, your first solve on your own can take a whole day.

What to watch out for

This is not a speedcubing puzzle and shouldn't be treated like one. Make 2x2-style turns calmly and precisely, with the layers aligned. Fast or misaligned turning easily leads to lockups and popping, and pieces popping out is the most common remark in user reviews. At first you need to get a feel for how hard you can turn it. The screw adjustment helps here, letting you set the tension of the mechanism.

Who is it for?

For collectors of unusual puzzles and for people who can already solve classic cubes and want a puzzle where they have to work out the mechanism themselves.
