Wood Snake Cube: a wooden snake puzzle

Wood Snake Cube is a wooden snake cube puzzle. It is a chain of small wooden blocks strung on an elastic cord. The blocks rotate against each other, so you can twist the snake in any direction. Your task is to fold it back into a full, even cube. The solved cube measures approx. 6.3–6.4 cm, so it sits comfortably in your hand and is easy to take with you.

What is the challenge?

The elastic cord runs through the blocks in a specific pattern. In some blocks it goes straight through, and in others it turns at a right angle. This sequence of straight sections and turns determines the solution. The order of moves is not arbitrary: one wrongly turned block at the start means that a few steps later the snake sticks out beyond the outline of the cube. Then you have to go back and try a different way.

The difficulty comes from spatial reasoning, not from memorizing algorithms. The first solve usually takes a while and requires patience. The next time it goes much faster, because you start to notice which parts of the chain have to go on the edges and which go in the middle.
