The second generation of the Wingy, the skewb from X-Man Design whose first version was the main puzzle of many competitors for years. X-Man Wingy Skewb V2 is a magnetic skewb with concave faces and semi-gloss plastic in the stickerless bright version. It offers adjustable magnets, tension and spring compression. When the V2 hit the market in 2022, it was one of the first mass-produced skewbs with adjustable magnet strength.

How it turns

The Wingy V2 is more of a control-oriented puzzle than a pure speed one. Reviewers mainly praise its grip, stability and smooth turning. The concave shape combined with the semi-gloss surface sits well in your fingers. Compared with the GAN Skewb, some people find the Wingy V2 slower, with slightly weaker corner cutting. For others, this control is exactly the reason to choose the Wingy. It is noticeably lighter than the V1 and quieter, although some users report squeaking. A drop of lube usually helps.

The sharpened corners and concave faces suit Polish finger tricks well. With the basic moves used by beginners, however, they may catch on your fingers.

Adjustment

• 5 magnet strength levels, set by hand, no tools needed.
• 5 spring compression levels (elasticity).
• 5 tension levels, i.e. how deep the screws are set (axis distance). On the loosest setting the puzzle may pop, but from the second level up the problem usually disappears.

The adjustment mechanisms are hidden under the corner caps, which need to be pried off. The spring system works the same way as in the X-Man Tornado V2 3x3, so if you know that cube, you will feel right at home. An adjustment tool and a settings guide are included.

Who is it for?

The Wingy V2 is a great fit for intermediate and advanced skewb solvers who prefer a stable, controlled puzzle with a strong grip and want to tune it to their style. If you are looking for the fastest possible skewb, you may prefer something with a lighter, faster feel. For your first contact with this puzzle, a simpler model will also do.
