XMD CH Tornado V2 M Enhanced

CH Tornado V2 M Enhanced is the X-Man Design Tornado V2 M 3x3 with added core magnets (corner-core magnets). Each corner has a magnet in its foot that interacts with magnets in the core of the cube. This modification was made by Cubers' Home, hence the "CH" in the name. The base is X-Man Design's 2021 flagship cube. X-Man Design is a brand owned by QiYi/MoFangGe. The Tornado V2 replaced the original Tornado, which made little impact in the speedcubing community.

How the Enhanced differs from the regular Tornado V2 M

The standard V2 M is smooth, quiet and stable. However, many cubers had to keep it on fairly tight settings to stop it from losing stability. The core magnets hold the corners close to the core of the cube. This means you can loosen the Enhanced version and it still stays stable. The magnetic feel is also more even. The cube weighs approx. 75 g, a few grams more than the version without core magnets.

How it turns

Corner cutting is easy, and lockups, pops and rolling pops practically never happen. On looser settings a corner can occasionally twist by accident (corner twist). The weaker side of the V2 series is reverse corner cutting, which reviewers rate lower than on other flagships from the same period. Slightly looser spring settings help a bit. After changing the magnet strength, you may hear some clicking. This is a cosmetic issue that does not affect solving.

Design and 125 settings

The internals differ from the V1 in the details. The corners have a slimmed-down foot and grooves resembling a spider web (straight lines around the magnet connect the circles). The edges have double torpedoes, and in places even triple ones. The third row sits at the level of the extended center and improves traction and stability.

The adjustment system has 5 levels for each of three parameters: spring tension, the distance between the center base and the spring system, and magnet strength. Together this gives 125 combinations, which you set with the tool included in the set.

Who is it for?

For cubers who like the Tornado V2 for its quiet, smooth turning and extensive adjustment options, but want a more stable cube on a loose setup. It is also a good choice if you prefer slightly smaller 3x3 cubes. Beginners can solve on the out-of-the-box settings. The adjustment range will be best used by those who want to tune the cube to their own preferences.
