This is a limited edition of the XMD Tornado V4 Flagship, the flagship 3x3 cube from X-Man Design, a brand owned by QiYi. The Tornado V4 replaced the Tornado V3, on which Max Park set the 3.13 s world record. With this cube you get what the Flagship is known for: a magnetic 3x3 cube with a Ball-Core, classic springs and a frosted surface. The colour scheme is stickerless bright.

How it turns

According to reviews and user feedback, the Tornado V4 Flagship has a smooth feel and very good corner cutting. Many people describe it as slightly "blocky", meaning the layers noticeably click into place, while still turning smoothly. It's more of a controllable cube than an extremely fast one. Some cubers find it slower than they expected, and the surface may feel slippery at first. It works best once you've adjusted the settings, lubed it and broken it in for a short while. After that, users also praise it for how quietly it turns.

Ball-Core and adjustment

• Ball-Core with magnets in the core. In addition to the magnets in the pieces, the cube has 8 magnets in the core. They help the layers align and keep the cube stable during fast turning.
• Magnet strength adjustment. You can choose from 5 settings. A single turn changes the magnet strength of the whole corner, without removing individual pieces.
• Dual spring adjustment. Compression (axis distance) and elasticity are set independently, each in 5 positions. The selected position is shown on a scale.
• Springs instead of MagLev. The Flagship version uses a classic spring system.

Flagship or Pioneer?

The Tornado V4 also comes in a Pioneer UV version. It has MagLev, meaning repelling magnets instead of springs, and a glossy UV coating with stronger grip. The Flagship has frosted plastic with medium grip and a more classic spring feel. The Limited Edition is based on the Flagship, so you choose it mainly for its looks and the limited nature of the release.

Who is it for?

For speedcubers who want a stable, predictable cube with extensive adjustment options and don't mind spending a moment on setup. It's a good choice for fans of the Tornado series and collectors of special editions. For a first cube, a cheaper magnetic model is usually enough. Adjustment this extensive only really pays off once you know which setup suits you.
