This is a collector's edition of the X-Man Tornado V3 M Pioneer, the most fully featured version of the Tornado V3. X-Man Design released it as a surprise. You don't know which colour version is in the box, so you'll only find out once you open it. The mechanism is the same Pioneer that speedcubers use. The difference lies in the looks and the production run.

The edition includes 9 versions. The version is drawn at random by the manufacturer. You can't choose it or exchange it later.

Tornado V3 M Pioneer mechanism

The Pioneer has magnets in the pieces, magnets in the core and MagLev. MagLev means that the layers are pushed apart by magnets instead of springs. This is the lightest-turning version of the Tornado V3. Max Park set a world record of 3.13 s on the Tornado V3 Pioneer, which was later broken. Compared to the Tornado V2, the rivets have been replaced with screws, and the center caps fit in any orientation.

• 5 magnet strength settings. You need the included tool to change them.

How it turns

Users describe the Pioneer as smooth, quiet and very fast right out of the box. Corner cutting is good, and the Ball-Core helps the layers align automatically. This speed doesn't suit everyone. Some people find the cube not very controllable without lube. A thicker lube and higher tension help in that case. There are also occasional comments about lockups when turning inaccurately.

Who is it for?

Above all for collectors and Tornado V3 fans who want the Pioneer mechanism in a unique version. The rare colours and the random draw make it more of a gift or an addition to a collection than a cube you buy for a specific colour. If you just want a cube for solving, the regular Pioneer version gives you the same mechanism.
