YJ 2x2 Pyraminx

YJ 2x2 Pyraminx looks like a regular tetrahedron, but inside it has a 2x2 cube mechanism. Among cubers, this kind of puzzle is called a Pyramorphix. The layers don't turn around the tips like on a classic Pyraminx. Instead, they turn through the middle of the shape. That's why after a few moves the pyramid stops being a pyramid and turns into an asymmetrical shape. This version is stickerless, in the bright colour scheme.

How it differs from a regular Pyraminx

This is important to know before you buy. The classic Pyraminx is a WCA event in which the tips and the layers around them turn. YJ 2x2 Pyraminx works like a 2x2 cube with a different shape (a shape mod), so it is not allowed in official competitions. If you want to practise Pyraminx for competitions, you need a classic Pyraminx. This model is a puzzle for fun and for your collection.

How to solve it

Knowing 2x2 methods helps a lot, because the mechanism is the same. The difficulty shifts to recognising the pieces. The pieces have different shapes and the faces are solid colours, so you need to get used to which piece goes where. At first, even someone who solves 2x2 well may get lost.

The turning is light and smooth. The puzzle handles fast solving without problems, although speed matters less here than with speedcubing cubes. Corner cutting doesn't matter much, because you rarely turn a puzzle like this aggressively anyway.

Construction and adjustment
