YJ Guanlong Pyraminx

YJ Guanlong Pyraminx

The YJ Guanlong Pyraminx is an affordable, non-magnetic Pyraminx from YJ's budget Guanlong series. YJ released it in 2018, and since then many people have bought it as their first Pyraminx. The puzzle is light, simple in construction and meets the requirements for official competitions, so you can practise on it and compete in the Pyraminx event.

How it turns

The Guanlong turns smoothly and has a pleasant feel. Some users describe the turning as slightly clicky, which many people see as an advantage, because you can clearly feel when a layer snaps into place. Its weaker side is corner cutting. By today's standards it is fairly limited, and this comes from the puzzle's design, not from a defect in a particular unit. If your turning is imprecise, the layers may catch lockups more often than on newer, more expensive models.

Adjustment

Tension is set with adjustment screws. You can loosen the Pyraminx a little so it turns more freely, or tighten it if you want more control. The Guanlong has no magnets, so the layers don't settle into place on their own the way they do on magnetic Pyraminxes.

Guanlong or Guanlong V2?

In 2024, YJ released a second version of this model. It is a separate product with a new mechanism and a noticeably lower weight. This page covers the first, classic version of the Guanlong Pyraminx.

Who is it for?

It's a good first Pyraminx for a child or for anyone who wants to try this event without spending much. The Guanlong also works well as a backup Pyraminx or as part of a collection. A speedcuber who trains regularly and cares about good corner cutting will probably soon start looking for a magnetic model.
