YJ GuanPo 2x2x2 v2 is the second version of one of the best-known budget 2x2 cubes from YJ (YongJun). For years, the original GuanPo was a popular choice as an inexpensive first speedcubing puzzle. The v2 version was released in 2024 and is still a simple 2x2 cube without magnets. It measures 50 mm and comes in the stickerless bright colour scheme, which means coloured plastic instead of stickers. There is nothing that could peel off or wear away.

How it turns

Compared with the first version, the v2 is meant to turn more smoothly, feel more stable and handle corner cutting better. Without magnets, the layers don't snap into place on their own, so you need to finish your moves a little more precisely. When you're just starting out, this isn't a problem. It actually helps you get a feel for how the mechanism works. User reviews agree that this is a good starter cube, but with very fast turning and high TPS you can tell it isn't a flagship model. As with most budget cubes, the out-of-the-box feel can vary from one cube to another. Loosening it a bit and adding a little lube usually improves smoothness noticeably.

GuanPo v2 or a magnetic cube?

In the same price range, YJ also offers the magnetic YuPo V2. Magnets give more stable and predictable behaviour during fast solving. The GuanPo v2 is simpler and has a more "classic" feel. It is more than enough for learning the beginner method and your first algorithms. If you already time your solves regularly and want to improve them, sooner or later you'll want a magnetic 2x2.

For anyone starting out with the 2x2 cube, for kids learning to solve it for the first time, and for those who want an inexpensive spare cube for school, a backpack or for showing algorithms to others.
