YJ GuanSu V2 4x4x4

The first GuanSu 4x4 came out in 2016 and quickly became one of the most often recommended budget 4x4 cubes for beginners. The YJ GuanSu V2 4x4x4 is its refreshed version. It has an improved mechanism and new frosted plastic in a stickerless version, so there are no stickers to wear off or peel. It is a simple non-magnetic 4x4 cube, designed as an affordable model to get you started.

How it turns

Turning is smooth, with a slightly scratchy feel that is typical of budget cubes without factory fine-tuning. There are no magnets, so the layers don't "click" into place and don't align on their own. When solving faster, you need to be more precise with your turns to avoid lockups. If you are just learning the reduction method and parity, this isn't a problem, because at this stage what matters most is learning the algorithms, not TPS.

A few drops of lube after taking the cube apart usually help to smooth out the feel.

Who is this 4x4 cube for?

The GuanSu V2 works well as a first 4x4, a cube for a child who has already mastered the 3x3, or a spare cube for school or your backpack. If you solve 4x4 regularly and are starting to time your solves, you'll quickly notice the lack of magnets. In that case, it's better to go straight for a magnetic 4x4 cube. More stable layers make fast solving easier.

How is it different from the original GuanSu?

The original GuanSu was made with a black or white body and stickers. The V2 has coloured stickerless plastic with a frosted finish and a modified mechanism. Both cubes share the same goal: a cheap but usable 4x4 model.
