YJ MGC Sigma 3x3

YJ took its MGC Beta cube and fixed the things users complained about most. The result is the YJ MGC Sigma 3x3, a 56 mm stickerless magnetic cube. The mechanism comes from the Beta, but the magnets are arranged differently and the corners have a new shape.

What changed compared to the MGC Beta

• Larger core magnets. They pull the layers into place more firmly, so the cube finishes turns more smoothly.
• Weaker corner-edge magnets. Combined with the larger core magnets, they give a more balanced magnetic feel. The cube doesn't "stop" on every move.
• Sharper corner caps. The reshaped corners are designed to reduce corner twists, which some users had problems with on the Beta.
• New look. Red accents and a new logo.

How it turns

The Sigma doesn't have the typical feel of a modern flagship. According to cubers, it's blocky, airy and fairly flexible, and it feels loose in the hand. It's quiet, with a muted sound. Users praise its corner cutting and the fact that corner twists have practically disappeared compared to the Beta. Some people compare the feel to older, classic designs rather than today's very smooth cubes with strong magnets.

Lubing noticeably changes the cube's character. Once lubed, it becomes smoother and more controllable. That's why it's worth choosing a lube that suits you and not judging the cube straight out of the box.

Who is it for?

For cubers who already know a few cubes and are looking for something with a different character than the popular flagships: lighter, looser and more blocky turning. The Sigma also makes sense for people who liked the MGC Beta but were bothered by corner twists. If you prefer strong, "sticky" magnets and a very smooth feel, this cube may not suit you. For complete beginners and as a child's first cube, a simpler, cheaper magnetic model is usually a better choice.
