YJ MGC SQ-1 V2 is the successor to the original MGC Square-1, one of the most popular Square-1 puzzles on the market. For the second generation, YJ mainly changed the magnets and the surface. New positioning magnets were added between the edges and corners, and the whole puzzle got a UV coating. This version is a magnetic Square-1 with a glossy UV Coated finish.

What has changed compared to V1

The most important change is the new magnet layout. Additional magnets between the edges and corners help the pieces settle into the right position, so the layers line up more easily before a slice move. This matters a lot on a Square-1, because a misaligned top or bottom layer quickly leads to a lockup. According to user feedback, the V2 locks up less often than the V1.

The pieces are hollowed out on the inside. As a result, the whole puzzle weighs 98 g, which is light for a magnetic Square-1.

UV Coated surface

The UV coating gives a glossy surface that offers better grip than regular plastic and wears more slowly. If you prefer matte plastic, consider the Magnetic version without the UV coating. It has the same mechanism and magnets - only the finish is different.

Out-of-the-box setup

Users report that, like the V1, the puzzle often comes set up fairly loose from the factory. Tightening the screws is usually enough to get more stable slices and fewer accidental moves. It is worth matching the tension to your own turning style: looser for speed, tighter for control.

Who is it for?

For anyone who solves Square-1 more seriously, as well as for those who want to upgrade from the V1 or from a cheaper, non-magnetic model. The magnets also make learning easier, because they help you hit the positions for the slice. However, the Square-1 changes shape during solving and follows different rules than a classic 3x3 cube. For a child's first puzzle, it is better to start with a 3x3.
