YJ MGC2 Elite 2x2

YJ MGC2 Elite 2x2 is a magnetic 2x2 cube from the MGC Elite line. It has an unusual magnet layout: instead of sitting in the corners, as in most 2x2 cubes, the magnets are placed in hidden pieces inside the mechanism (in the centers and edges). YJ introduced this solution in 2020 as the first of its kind in a 2x2 cube. The cube is legal for official competitions and comes in two color versions: Black and Stickerless Bright.

How it turns

The main strength of the MGC2 Elite is its very smooth, soft turning. Because of where the magnets are placed, they feel different from those in a typical 2x2 cube. Reviewers describe their strength as medium to strong. The cube is stable and easy to control, so it suits the Ortega method, CLL and other algorithms where predictable turning matters. Out of the box it can be fairly loose and "springy". Usually all you need to do is tighten the screws and set it up the way you like.

Adjustment and set

Adjustment is traditional, using screws. The cube has no dial or capsule system. Spare springs in two stiffness levels are included, so you can change the feel of the cube without buying extra parts. With the additional magnets you can also experiment with the magnet setup.

Things you should know

The cube is 51 mm, so it is slightly larger than most new 2x2 cubes. Some people need a moment to get used to this. Users also point out the thin corner stalks. Normal solving does not harm them, but avoid forcing the cube apart or twisting the corners.

Who is it for?

For anyone moving from a basic 2x2 cube to a model with a solid mechanism and magnets. The MGC2 Elite is also a good choice for speedcubers who want a stable, controllable 2x2 cube and like a slightly larger size. If you prefer a very small, light and aggressively fast 2x2 cube, another model may suit you better.

    Trzeszczy
