YJ mini bread 3x3x3

YJ Mini Bread 3x3x3, a mini keychain cube

YJ Mini Bread 3x3x3 is a small, fully functional 3x3 cube available in three sizes: 2.0 cm, 3.5 cm and 4.5 cm. It works just like a regular cube, so you can solve it with the same algorithms. It is, however, noticeably smaller than a standard 3x3 and fits easily in your pocket, pencil case or on your keyring.

Why "bread"?

The name refers to the shape. The faces of the cube are slightly convex, so the whole puzzle looks like a loaf of bread or a pillow. This shape is called pillowed. The rounded body makes the small cube sit better in your fingers and instantly recognizable. The colors are bright, in fluorescent shades.

How does it turn?

The mechanism is moderately advanced. For such a small size, the cube turns decently, but it is not a record-breaking speed cube. The smallest 2 cm version requires a lot of finger precision. Users point out that straight out of the box the feel can be sandy. During fast turning this can lead to catching and popping. A drop of lube and some breaking in usually improve smoothness noticeably. The most comfortable version for regular solving is the 4.5 cm one, which is closest in size to a typical 3x3 cube.

Who is it for?

For collectors of miniature puzzles and for anyone who wants to have a cube with them at all times. It also makes a nice small gift for a child who can already solve a 3x3. For your first cube to learn on or for timed practice, a classic 3x3 is a better choice. The Mini Bread is best treated as an addition to it.
