YJ Mirror 2x2x2

YJ Mirror 2x2x2 is the 2x2 version of the Mirror Cube from YongJun (YJ). Colors don't matter here. Every face is covered with identical mirror-like stickers, and the pieces come in different sizes because the cuts don't run through the center of the cube. Once scrambled, the puzzle loses its cube shape. It's solved only when it becomes a neat cube again.

What makes it challenging

Mechanically it's a regular 2x2, so the algorithms you know from the classic cube work exactly the same. The challenge lies in reading the state of the puzzle. With no colors to guide you, you have to recognize pieces by their dimensions and keep track of their orientation. Every corner has to end up in its own spot and be turned the right way, otherwise you'll be left with steps on the faces. That's why the YJ Mirror 2x2x2 is great for training your spatial imagination. It's also usually a fun introduction before the Mirror 3x3, which has more pieces to recognize.

How it turns

This is a simple, non-magnetic puzzle, not a cube for breaking records. Turning is smooth, and it performs decently for a model in this price range. You can change the tension with the adjustment screws. A looser setup turns more freely, while a tighter one gives you more control and makes pieces shift less often. With a Mirror, recognizing the pieces matters more than speed, so this mechanism is more than enough.

Color versions

The body is black, and you can choose between two sticker colors: Black/silver (silver) and Black/golden (gold). The two versions differ only in looks; the mechanism is the same.

Who is it for?

For anyone who can solve a 2x2 or 3x3 and wants to try something different from yet another classic cube. It also makes a great inexpensive gift for someone who enjoys brain teasers, or a nice addition to a collection. It's not a WCA event, so the cube isn't intended for official competitions.
