YJ Mirror 3x3

On the YJ Mirror, every piece is the same colour and differs only in size. It is a mirror cube (Mirror Blocks) from YongJun, built on a 3x3 mechanism. When you scramble it, it loses its cube shape, and it is only solved when all its faces are flat again. With this puzzle you don't look at colours. You recognise each piece by its shape and thickness. The model came out in 2020 and comes in two colour versions: a black body with either silver or golden stickers.

How to solve a mirror cube

The moves are the same as on a regular 3x3 cube, so you can use any method you already know. The difficulty lies elsewhere. Without colours, it is much harder to quickly see where a piece should go, and in the last layer it is easy to confuse two similar-looking pieces. If you can already solve a classic cube, this is a good way to find a new challenge without learning new algorithms.

Design and tension adjustment

The YJ Mirror mechanism has noticeably larger florian cuts than older mirror cubes. These are rounded edges on the pieces that help with corner cutting, so the cube turns more smoothly and has fewer lockups when the layers are not perfectly aligned. You set the tension with adjustment screws, just like on classic 3x3 cubes.

Who is it for?

For anyone who can already solve a regular 3x3 cube and wants to try something different. The YJ Mirror also works well as an affordable gift or an addition to a puzzle collection. The cube is not allowed in official competitions, so there is no point buying it for timed practice. If you are just learning to solve, start with a classic 3x3 cube. It is easier to master a method on it, and you can move on to the mirror cube later.
