YJ RuiChuang 5x5x5 is an affordable 5x5 cube from YongJun. It belongs to the budget Rui series and is designed mainly for those who are just getting started with big cubes. It has a standard size of 62 mm, weighs approx. 149 g and comes in a stickerless bright version, which means it is made of coloured plastic, without stickers.

Despite the new name, this is not a completely new design. In practice, the RuiChuang is the earlier YJ YuChuang 5x5 under a different name. The only difference is the shades of the coloured plastic, and this change applies to the stickerless version only. So the mechanism comes from the previous generation of budget 5x5 cubes.

To be honest, the turning is quite stiff. In terms of speed and smoothness, the RuiChuang can't match newer budget 5x5 cubes. The cube comes generously lubed from the factory. You can change the tension with the adjustment screws, so if the layers turn too heavily, it's worth loosening them a little. With older-style big cubes, it's better to turn calmly and align the layers carefully, because aggressive turning makes lockups more likely.

This model makes the most sense as a first 5x5 cube for learning to solve. It's a good choice for someone who already knows the 3x3, maybe also the 4x4, and wants to find out whether bigger cubes will hook them before buying something more expensive. The cube is allowed in official competitions, but a speedcuber who wants to improve their 5x5 times will quickly feel its limitations. In that case, it's better to go straight for a newer, faster model, ideally a magnetic one.
