YJ Yeet Ball

YJ Yeet Ball is a ball-shaped Ivy Cube puzzle. It works exactly like an Ivy Cube, but its rounded shape makes it feel like a small ball in your hand. The fun name comes from the English slang word "yeet", meaning "to throw with force". YJ released it in 2020. In our shop it is available in the stickerless bright version: no stickers, with pieces in vivid colors.

How does the Yeet Ball work?

You can think of the Ivy Cube as a Skewb with only half of its corners. The layers turn around the corners, and the faces are made of leaf-shaped petals. The Ivy has only 29,160 possible permutations, which is very few for a twisty puzzle. That makes the solution quick to understand, and many people figure it out intuitively, even without algorithms. The solving method is exactly the same as on a regular Ivy Cube. If you can solve an Ivy, you can solve the Yeet Ball too. Only the shape changes, and with it the way you hold and orient the puzzle in your hand.

The puzzle has no magnets and is not a speedcubing design. Customer reviews consistently say it turns smoothly, aligns nicely and rarely gets lockups. It is more of an enjoyable, casual puzzle than gear for breaking records.

Who is it for?

The Yeet Ball works well as a first puzzle that isn't a cube. It suits a child who has already mastered the 3x3 or is just starting out, and it also makes a nice small gift. Cubers also buy it for their collections of shape mods and unusual puzzles. The Yeet Ball is not a WCA event, so it won't help you train for official competitions. A solving guide is included, so beginners can manage without searching for tutorials.
