YJ YiLeng / New Fisher 3x3

YJ YiLeng (New Fisher) is a shape mod built on a 3x3 mechanism. Unlike a classic cube, its cutting planes are rotated 45 degrees around the vertical axis. When solved, it looks like an ordinary cube, but after a few moves it stops being one. A scrambled Fisher Cube no longer resembles a cube, and its pieces have different shapes and sizes.

How to solve the Fisher Cube

Inside there is a 3x3 mechanism, so if you know the beginner's method or CFOP, you can use the same algorithms. The challenge lies elsewhere. The pieces don't look the same as on a regular cube, so you need to learn to recognize which piece acts as an edge and which as a corner, and where the centers are. During your first solves, getting used to the shapes takes the most time, not the algorithms themselves. If you have already mastered the 3x3, it's a natural first step into shape mods.

The moves are smooth, and the cube doesn't catch during normal solving. Just keep in mind that this is a puzzle for solving for fun, not a speedcubing cube. Don't expect the turning performance of modern magnetic 3x3 cubes.

Tension adjustment

The cube has adjustment screws, so you can set the tension to your liking. A tighter cube feels more solid and stable, while a looser one turns more lightly.

Who is it for?

For anyone who can already solve a regular 3x3 cube and wants to try something new without learning new algorithms. It also works well as another cube for your collection or as a gift for a child who has already mastered the basic cube. The Fisher Cube is not permitted in official WCA competitions, so it's meant for solving at home, not for competing.
