How the Soccer Megaminx 12 Axis turns

"12 Axis" in the name means 12 axes of rotation. Each one passes through a pentagonal face, just like on a regular Megaminx. The hexagons don't turn on their own. They are made of pieces that move together with the turning layers. This means that if you can solve a Megaminx, you already have a good foundation for solving this version. You just need to get used to the different look of the pieces and the larger number of faces.

The cuts are curved, which keeps the overall shape spherical. The puzzle has no magnets, so it works purely mechanically and doesn't snap layers into place the way magnetic speed cubes do.

12 Axis or 20 Axis?

YuXin also sells a 20-Axis version of the Soccer Megaminx. The ball shape is the same, but the puzzle turns around different axes, so it is solved differently. The 12 Axis version is closer to the classic Megaminx, which makes it an easier place to start if you already know the dodecahedron.

Who is it for?

This model is a great choice for cubers who have already solved the Megaminx and want to try something different. It will also appeal to collectors of shape mods and other unusual puzzles. It is not a WCA event, so you buy it for fun and for the challenge itself rather than for practising your times. Football fans will also appreciate it as a shelf decoration.
