YuXin Black Kylin 3x3x3 V2

The YuXin Black Kylin 3x3x3 V2 is the non-magnetic version of the YuXin Kylin V2 M. It has the same design but no magnets, which makes it cheaper. Instead of stickers it uses plastic tiles, which don't peel off or wear down like regular stickers. The cube comes in two plastic versions: black (Black) and transparent (Transparent).

Design

The centers are shaped like rounded squares with sharp protrusions at the corners of the base. Thin tracks run along the bottom and side faces of the edges and corners. The leading edges have deep cut-outs that help with corner cutting, meaning you can turn a layer even when the adjacent one isn't perfectly aligned yet. Tension is set with adjustment screws, so you can tighten or loosen the cube to make it more stable or faster.

How it turns

User opinions are mixed. Some praise its good corner cutting, quiet turning and fairly distinct, heavier feel. Others find the cube slow without adjustment and lube. Without magnets the layers don't snap into place on their own, so the Black Kylin V2 is less stable and requires more precise turning than the V2 M version. Some also point out that the tiles are fairly small.

Black Kylin V2 or Kylin V2 M?

Both cubes share the same design. The difference is that the Kylin V2 M has magnets and the Black Kylin V2 doesn't. The magnetic version holds the layers better during fast solving. The non-magnetic version is cheaper and is a better fit for people who are just learning to solve. More experienced cubers can also magnetize it themselves.

Who is it for?

As a first 3x3 cube, for school or as a backup cube you won't mind wearing out. The tiles are a good choice if worn-out stickers bother you. If you want to start timed practice right away, you'll usually notice progress faster on a magnetic cube.
