YuXin Black Kylin 3x3x3 v2

YuXin Black Kylin 3x3x3 v2 is a budget 3x3 cube without magnets. It is the second version of the budget Kylin series (sold in some shops as Black Kirin). We stock it in the stickerless bright version: the colors are in the plastic itself, so nothing can peel off or wear away. It measures approx. 55 mm, which makes it slightly smaller than a classic Rubik's Cube, and weighs approx. 72 g.

How it turns

The cube has no magnets, so nothing helps it settle the layers into place. After a fast move, a layer can go slightly too far (overshooting) or stop out of alignment. When you solve faster, you need to turn more precisely. On the other hand, the layers turn lightly and freely, and many people prefer this feel for slower solving. According to sellers, the Kylin v2 is forgiving of imprecise turns and has good corner cutting. The inside of the pieces has grooves designed to reduce catching and lockups. Cheaper YuXin cubes from the Kylin series are often slightly sandy straight out of the box. A little lube and a few days of solving usually help.

Build and adjustment

• Matte (frosted) plastic without UV coating, which gives a good grip.
• Classic spring mechanism with tension adjustment, so you can set the cube looser (faster) or tighter (more stable).
• No magnets, so you can magnetize the cube yourself later if you enjoy this kind of modding.

Kylin v2 or Kylin v2 M?

The series also includes the v2 M version with magnets. It is a bit heavier and more stable, because the magnets help the layers settle into place. The non-magnetic version is cheaper and lighter, but requires more precision when solving fast.

Who is it for?

It is a good first cube for learning to solve, including for kids, and a cheap backup cube for school or travel. It also works well as a base for modding, e.g. magnetizing it yourself. If you want to improve your times quickly and need a stable cube for competitions, you will be better off choosing a budget magnetic cube right away.
