YuXin Black Kylin 4x4x4 is a budget 4x4 cube from YuXin, released in 2018. The model is also known as the Black Kirin or Kylin 4x4. It measures 60 mm, has slightly matte (frosted) plastic and a stickerless bright colour scheme, so there are no stickers to wear off or peel. For many people it is their first 4x4 after mastering the 3x3, bought to learn centre reduction, edge pairing and parity without spending a lot.

How does it turn?

User opinions are clearly divided. Some consider the Kylin a good first 4x4 for learning. Others point out that out of the box it turns stiffer and can suffer from lockups, catching and sometimes popping. As with most budget cubes, a lot depends on the setup. The cube has adjustment screws, so you can set the tension to your liking, and a well-chosen lube usually makes the turning noticeably smoother. Don't expect it to behave like a mid-range or high-end magnetic 4x4, though. This is a cube for learning and casual solving, not for chasing records.

Who is it for?

For anyone who wants to try 4x4 and isn't sure yet whether bigger cubes will catch on. It also works well as a cheap backup cube or a gift for a child who can already solve the 3x3. The Kylin is light (approx. 116 g), and at 60 mm it sits comfortably even in smaller hands. A speedcuber who plans to train 4x4 regularly and needs stability at high TPS will quickly feel the limits of this mechanism. In that case, it's better to go straight for a higher-end magnetic cube.

V1 or V2?

YuXin later released a second version of the Kylin 4x4. This listing is for the first generation from 2018. Both versions have a similar size and weight, but their mechanisms differ, so reviews of the V2 don't apply to this model.
