YuXin Black Kylin 4x4x4 V2 is a budget non-magnetic 4x4 cube designed mainly for beginners. It works well as a first 4x4 for learning the reduction method, edge pairing and parity solving before you spend more on proper speedcubing gear. It has a matte (frosted) surface and a stickerless bright colour scheme, so there are no stickers to wear off or peel.

How it turns

We won't oversell this cube. Compared with other 4x4 cubes, its turning is weak. It feels more sandy than smooth, corner cutting is limited, and catching and lockups happen easily when you turn faster. Some users find it turns smoothly and stably straight out of the box, while others say that even after breaking it in and lubing it there is little improvement. It's enough for relaxed solving and learning, but not for fast solving and high TPS.

Construction and adjustment

The internals are based on the mechanism known from the Black Kylin 3x3 cubes and the Little Magic series. The cube has no magnets, so the layers don't align on their own and you need to finish your turns more precisely. Tension adjustment is classic, with screws in the centres. A looser setting makes the cube turn more lightly, but popping becomes more likely.

For anyone who wants to try a 4x4 and learn to solve it, and for parents looking for an affordable 4x4 cube for their child. If you want to time your solves and solve fast from the start, consider a magnetic 4x4 cube. Magnets give stability and better layer alignment, which this cube lacks.
