YuXin Black Kylin Skewb is a budget skewb from YuXin's Black Kylin line. It has light, fast turning and good corner cutting, and it is legal for official competitions. It's a great first skewb for anyone who wants to get to know this puzzle before buying a more expensive model.

A mechanism similar to the Little Magic

The inside of this cube is almost the same as in the YuXin Little Magic skewb. However, the Black Kylin has a few simplifications that make it cheaper to produce. The easiest one to spot is the multi-track mechanism. The side walls of the pieces are not one smooth surface; instead, they have three separate surfaces.

The second difference is the stabilization. The Little Magic uses stabilizing balls, while the Black Kylin has flexible plastic plates with a bump shaped like a section of a sphere. The bump slides along grooves and clicks into dimples in the moving corners. This way, the layers settle into place after every move.

How it turns

Turning is very light and fast, and the "click" at the end of each move is rather weak. The plastic has a strongly matte surface, so at first the cube feels quite dry, even after lubing. This feeling usually fades over time. Corner cutting is very good, so less precise moves don't cause lockups. You can change the tension with the adjustment screws and set the cube looser or tighter.

Who is it for?

We recommend this skewb mainly for beginners. It lets you learn the skewb on a light and fast cube without spending much. It also works well as a first skewb for a child. If you prefer a more distinct "click" and a more controllable feel, you may later want to choose a model with stronger stabilization or with magnets.
