YuXin Black Kylin Skewb V2 is the second version of the Skewb from the Black Kylin series. Outside Poland, the same series is also sold under the name Black Kirin. YuXin has been making affordable speedcubing puzzles for years, and that is exactly where this puzzle fits in: an inexpensive, fully fledged Skewb for learning and regular solving, without paying extra for flagship features. This version measures approx. 56 mm and comes in the stickerless bright colour scheme, which means coloured plastic with no stickers.

What is a Skewb?

At first glance, a Skewb looks like a cube, but it turns in a completely different way from a 3x3 cube. The cutting planes run diagonally, so every move rotates half of the puzzle around one of the corners. The puzzle has 8 corners and 6 square-shaped centres. There are fewer moves than on a 3x3, and the beginner method is short, which is why the Skewb is often the first puzzle people pick up after mastering the 3x3. It is also an official WCA event, so you can use this puzzle at competitions.

Who is it for?

The Black Kylin Skewb V2 is a sensible choice if you want to find out whether you enjoy the Skewb before investing more, or if you need a spare puzzle or one for learning algorithms. It also makes a good gift for a child who can already solve a 3x3 and wants something new. The 56 mm size fits most hands, including those of younger cubers.

To be honest, the factory lube in budget puzzles is often on the light side. If the puzzle feels dry or noisy straight out of the box, a little lube and a few days of solving usually help. A speedcuber who trains Skewb seriously and chases fast times may eventually want to move up to a more expensive model with magnets and more setup options.
