YuXin Dragon 2x2 Cube

This is the dragon from YuXin's series of animal puzzles. It was released in early 2024, the Year of the Dragon in the Chinese calendar. Inside there is a standard 2x2 mechanism, so the YuXin Dragon 2x2 Cube turns just like a classic 2x2 cube. The difference is what you have to solve. Instead of matching solid colors on each face, you restore the shape of the dragon: its head, its whiskered snout, its belly and the rest of its body.

2x2 shape mod: how to solve it

The Dragon is a shape mod. Once scrambled, the figure turns into a shapeless block, and you recognize the pieces by their shape and carved details, not by color. The methods you know from the 2x2 work the same way. However, you have to keep track of the orientation of every corner, because color doesn't tell you which side is the right one. That's why even people who can solve a 2x2 from memory usually slow down with the dragon.

Customers say the puzzle turns well right out of the box and is bigger than it looks in the photos. It measures about 10.6 x 13.8 x 14.7 cm and has an irregular shape, so it's not meant for setting records or practicing TPS. It works better as a change from a regular 2x2, a collection piece or a shelf decoration. As with any 2x2 cube, don't force the corners to twist (corner twisting), as a piece may break.
