YuXin Earth 2x2
YuXin Earth 2x2 works just like a regular 2x2 cube, but instead of six coloured faces it features a map of the world. Once solved, the puzzle looks like a globe. It's a shape mod from YuXin that people buy mainly to display on a shelf, not to set records on.
How to solve it
The moves and algorithms are the same as on a classic 2x2 cube. If you can solve a 2x2, you can solve the Earth too. The difference is that there is no colour scheme here. You have to match each piece to its neighbours using fragments of continents and oceans, so simply working out where everything goes takes longer. You can brush up on your geography along the way. The set includes solving instructions that even someone with no cubing experience can follow.
Mechanism and turning
Let's be honest: this is not a speed cube. The internals are very simple, and the pieces are only minimally rounded. Turning feels pleasant but not very smooth. Corner cutting is minimal, so with faster or less precise turning you will get lockups and need to align the layers more carefully. The cube has adjustment screws that let you loosen or tighten it a little, but this won't change its character. It is also not allowed in official competitions.
Looks and packaging
The biggest strength of this model is its appearance. The world map makes it stand out among classic cubes, and the puzzle comes in nice cardboard and plastic packaging that lets you see it inside. This makes it a great choice as a gift or for a collection.
Who is it for?
Above all for puzzle collectors and anyone who enjoys unusual shape mods. It also makes a nice gift for someone interested in geography. If you want a 2x2 cube for learning to solve fast or for practice, a classic magnetic 2x2 is a better choice.
