YuXin Hays 7x7x7 Magnetic (Hays7 M) is a magnetic 7x7 cube developed by YuXin together with Kevin Hays, one of the best-known big cube solvers. The model was released in 2018. Several continental and world records have been set on the Hays7, including the first official sub-2-minute result (Kevin Hays' 1:59.95) and Max Park's later world record of 1:47.89. The M version comes magnetized from the factory, so you don't have to install the magnets yourself.

Design and magnets

The inner surfaces of the pieces have many grooves that reduce the contact area and therefore the friction. The magnets differ in strength depending on the layer: the closer to the outside, the stronger they are. This helps keep the layers aligned and reduces misalignment, a typical problem with big puzzles. Tension is adjusted with screws.

How it turns after adjustment and lubing

Straight out of the box the cube can be loose, so it's worth tightening and lubing it first. After this setup, turning is fast and light, and the feel is smooth and relatively quiet. For a 7x7 the cube is compact (67.5 mm) and fairly light, which makes it easier to push your TPS. Layer misalignment and pops are rare. Lockups and the occasional "click" may sometimes occur, but compared with other big cubes they are not bothersome.

Who is the Hays 7x7 Magnetic for?

Above all for those who regularly solve 7x7 against the clock and want a proven magnetic speed cube. Keep in mind that not everyone will get the best results straight out of the box. The Hays7 only shows its full potential once the tension and lube are dialed in, so it will benefit most those who don't mind doing a bit of work on their cube. The model is available with a black body (Black) and stickerless (Stickerless Bright), and it is legal for official competitions.
