YuXin Huanglong 12x12x12

YuXin Huanglong 12x12x12 is a non-magnetic 12x12 cube from the Huanglong series, YuXin's flagship line of big cubes. The series goes all the way up to 17x17, and the 12x12 is one of its larger models. The cube measures approx. 91 mm, which is very small for a 12x12. When it was released in 2020, it was the smallest 12x12 cube on the market, although its lead over the competition was only a few millimeters. The edges and corners are slightly rounded, so the cube feels smaller than it really is and sits comfortably in your hands during long solves.

How it turns

Straight out of the box, the Huanglong 12x12 is usually stiff. After the first few solves it loosens up noticeably and the turning becomes smooth. As with most big cubes, you need to keep the layers aligned. You will feel slight misalignments between layers, and if they get bigger, catching or lockups may occur. Corner cutting is limited, so it's better not to force a turn, as a single piece may pop out. Users agree that popping is rare and a popped piece is easy to put back in. The cube is a full cube shape, so you can realign the layers by pressing it against a table.

Tension adjustment

Tension is set with adjustment screws. In practice, with a cube this size, the main goal is to find a balance between smoothness and layer stability once the cube is broken in. The cube has no magnets, MagLev or Ball-Core.

Who is it for?

For cubers who have already mastered the 7x7 and bigger cubes and want to move on to the 12x12 or expand their big cube collection. Solving a cube like this usually takes at least an hour, so patience will come in handy. It weighs over half a kilogram, which you can feel in your hands during longer solves. The 12x12 is not a WCA event, so you won't be able to use this model in official competitions.
