YuXin Huanglong 14x14x14

YuXin Huanglong 14x14x14 is a big cube from the Huanglong series. YuXin gave it something rare at this size: a cubic shape with no pillowing. Most 14x14 cubes on the market have bulging faces. The Huanglong has flat faces, and only the edges and corners are rounded. At 103 mm per side, it stays fairly compact for 14 layers, so it's easier to hold in your hands during a long solve.

Shape and size in practice

Flat faces have a real advantage. With a pillowed cube, it's harder to tell whether the layers are properly aligned. Here you can see right away where something sticks out, and you can square the cube up by pressing it against a table. The rounded edges keep the corners from digging into your palms. This matters, because a 14x14 solve takes a long time and you hold the cube the whole way through.

How it turns

Users report that the layers turn lightly straight out of the box and that the cube feels stable. Some also compare it to the Huanglong 17x17. As with any big cube, you need to keep an eye on alignment. Misaligned layers lead to catching. Corner cutting is naturally very limited here, so it's better to turn calmly and evenly than to force the layers. With this many pieces, a short break-in and some lube usually help as well.

This cube has no magnets, no MagLev and no Ball-Core. The plastic is matte, with no UV coating. In this class of cubes, what counts most is the quality of the mechanism and a comfortable shape, not the technologies known from 3x3 cubes.

Who is it for?

For collectors and big cube fans who have already tackled 7x7–10x10 cubes and want a bigger challenge. If you know the Huanglong 12x12 or 13x13, you'll get the same style here in a larger size. For someone who is just learning to solve a cube, it's too big a step. It's better to master the 4x4 and 5x5 first, because the method for solving a 14x14 is the same, it just takes much more patience.
