YuXin Huanglong 16x16x16

YuXin Huanglong 16x16x16 is a 16x16 cube with a shape close to a regular cube. The faces are flat, while the edges and corners are rounded. Big cubes of this size have usually been made in a pillow shape (with convex faces), and distributors present the Huanglong as the first 16x16 on the market without that shape. The cube comes in a stickerless bright version, made of coloured plastic with no stickers.

Size and shape

The cube measures approx. 115 mm per side. That's small for 16 layers, but it's still a big object to hold. It's comfortable to solve if you have larger hands, while a child or someone with smaller hands will have to stretch more. It weighs approx. 1 kg, so during longer solves it's convenient to do some of the moves with the cube resting on a table. The rounded edges make it easier to grip than the sharp corners of a classic cube, and the flat faces make it easier to read the position of the pieces than on a pillow cube.

What to expect when solving

On a 16x16, accuracy matters more than TPS. You need to align the layers carefully before every turn, because with so many pieces, imprecise turning quickly ends in a lockup or catching. Since this is an even-layered cube, it has no fixed centres, and you may run into the parities known from the 4x4. The method is the same as on smaller NxN cubes: centres first, then edge pairing, and finally solving it like a 3x3. The solve itself, however, takes many hours.

Who is it for?

For experienced cubers and collectors who have already tackled smaller big cubes (e.g. 7x7 or 9x9) and want to take on a much larger cube. The Huanglong 16x16 also works well as an eye-catching piece in a collection. For a first cube or a gift for a child who is just starting out, it's better to choose a smaller model.
