YuXin HuangLong 3x3x3 Magnetic

The magnetic version of the HuangLong 3x3, released by YuXin in 2018. The YuXin HuangLong 3x3x3 Magnetic (often listed in shops as the HuangLong M) is a speed cube with factory-installed magnets, screw-based tension adjustment and an unusual extra: small weighting balls that you insert into the tips of the corners. This version is made of black plastic.

How it turns

The cube turns smoothly and fairly fast, and the feel is on the smooth side. According to user reviews, you can make it more controllable once it's lubed and the tension is set. The magnets are medium strength. You can feel them when the layers line up, but they don't slow down your turning. The balls in the corners are meant to add a bit of inertia to the layers. In practice the difference is small, so they're more of a curiosity than something that really changes the cube's character. You can insert the balls or leave the cube without them.

Some users report that a few magnets come loose over time. If that happens, just glue them back in with a drop of glue.

HuangLong M or HuangLong V2?

This is the first generation of the HuangLong. The newer HuangLong V2 has a different design, with MagLev and magnets in the core. The cube described here has neither MagLev nor Ball-Core. It uses classic springs, and the tension is adjusted with screws. We don't see it as a cube that beats the competition in its price range. Today it's easy to find models with more adjustment options, so the HuangLong M mainly makes sense if you know this series or want to try a different, slightly lighter feel.

Who is it for?

For casual solvers or intermediate cubers who want a magnetic 3x3 cube without elaborate adjustment systems. The model is legal for official competitions. If you're buying your first cube or want newer technology, you'd be better off checking out the HuangLong V2 or other current models in our 3x3 category.
