YuXin HuangLong Magnetic Pyraminx

YuXin HuangLong Magnetic Pyraminx

YuXin HuangLong Magnetic Pyraminx is YuXin's flagship pyraminx from the HuangLong line, the premium series rather than the budget Little Magic. It was released at the end of 2018 and quickly became one of the most popular Pyraminx choices among speedcubers. It has magnets in the pieces and in the tips, and the internal mechanism is made of cream-colored plastic. It comes in three colors: Stickerless Bright, Black and White.

How it turns

The HuangLong feels solid and stable. The magnets noticeably help the layers settle into place, so it's easier to turn accurately at high TPS, and you'll get fewer lockups from layers that aren't fully turned. The puzzle is smooth right out of the box. It does have one limitation: corner cutting is fairly limited because the edge feet are thick. With good tension adjustment this matters less, but if you tend to cut a lot because of imprecise turning, keep it in mind. Some users say outright that the strong magnets make up for the weaker corner cutting by pushing you towards cleaner moves.

Weight balls and tension adjustment

• Balls in the edges. The extra weight is meant to improve stability and give the puzzle more momentum when turning. Most owners remove them anyway to make the puzzle lighter and faster. It's best to try both setups.
• Adjustment screws and springs. You set the tension with screws, so you can tune the puzzle more for speed or more for control.
• Spare parts included. Extra washers, springs, magnets and balls are useful for modding and small repairs.

Who is it for?

For anyone who solves Pyraminx for time and wants a stable, magnetic puzzle with tension adjustment. The HuangLong is legal in official WCA competitions. It suits a clean, confident turning style. If you're just getting to know the Pyraminx, the cheaper Little Magic Pyraminx M from the same manufacturer is usually enough.
