The Teraminx is a dodecahedron with seven layers on every face, the minx equivalent of a 7x7 cube. The YuXin Huanglong Teraminx was released in 2023 and is part of the Huanglong series. In the same series, YuXin has also released the Gigaminx (5x5) and the Petaminx (9x9), among others. The puzzle has 542 pieces and no magnets. It comes in a stickerless bright version, so there are no stickers that could easily wear off or peel on such small pieces.

How it turns

Users say the Huanglong turns smoothly right out of the box. They usually compare it with the ShengShou Teraminx and find the YuXin noticeably smoother. The outer pieces have a textured surface that improves grip, which helps during long solves. As with any big minx, you need to keep the layers aligned. If the edges are not lined up well, lockups can happen, and they usually go away when you turn the layer back slightly. Calm, precise turning works best, while aggressive turning works less well.

Tension adjustment

Each of the 12 centers has a screw with a spring. You adjust the tension with a Phillips screwdriver, which is not included. The Huanglong is a sensible choice if you want a non-magnetic stickerless Teraminx. If you really want magnets, you will need to look for a different model. For a child's first puzzle, a regular Megaminx is a better choice.
