YuXin Light Shadow Magnetic 3x3x3 Cube

YuXin Light Shadow Magnetic 3x3

YuXin Light Shadow Magnetic 3x3 (catalog no. YX1739) is a magnetic 3x3 cube with transparent pieces and LED lights inside. When you turn the layers, the light changes color, and there are 8 colors to choose from. The effect looks best in a dark room. YuXin designed this cube mainly to look great. It works fine for casual solving, but it isn't built for breaking records.

A cube with LED lighting

The transparent pieces let you see inside the cube, where the LEDs light up as you solve. The colors blend into one another, so the cube looks great in motion and as a decoration on your shelf. It makes a great gift for anyone who loves puzzles and gadgets, including kids who are just getting started with cubes.

Magnets and solving

The pieces contain magnets. They help each layer settle into place, which makes the cube more predictable than cheaper models without magnets. The manufacturer also gives no information about tension adjustment or compression. If you're a speedcuber training for time, a regular speedcube, such as one from the YuXin Little Magic series, will serve you better.

Who is it for?

The Light Shadow is a good fit if you want something different from a standard cube: for your collection, for relaxed solving, or as a gift. Parents get a cube whose lights will catch a child's interest, and since it has magnets, it also turns better than the simplest toy cubes. For regular training and competitions, you'd be better off choosing a cube designed for speedcubing.
