YuXin Little Magic 2x2x2 Magnetic

YuXin Little Magic 2x2x2 Magnetic is the magnetic version of the budget Little Magic 2x2 cube that YuXin released in 2020. It has the same character as the non-magnetic version, but the factory-installed magnets help the layers snap into place and make turning more precise. At 50 mm, it is a standard-size 2x2 cube. In our shop, it is available in the stickerless bright colour scheme.

How it turns

The magnets are moderately strong. You can clearly feel them and they stabilise the cube, but they don't slow your moves down. The speed sits between fast and controllable, so the cube won't run away from your fingers, which makes it a good choice for learning your first algorithms. According to user reviews, it may feel a little dry and scratchy straight out of the box. Once broken in and lubed, it becomes noticeably smoother.

Corner cutting is decent for this price range, though not as forgiving as on more expensive 2x2 cubes. With less accurate turning, you may get the occasional lockup. The cube is also slightly heavier than some of its budget competitors, which gives some people a sense of stability, while others may find it less nimble.

Tension adjustment

You set the tension with the adjustment screws. A looser setting gives better corner cutting and faster turning. A tighter cube is more controlled and less prone to popping.

Little Magic Magnetic or V2 M?

YuXin also makes the newer Little Magic 2x2 V2 M from 2021. It has a redesigned mechanism and a black internal plastic, and it is noticeably lighter. This version is the first-generation model. It is simpler, but well proven.

Who is it for?

It is a good first magnetic 2x2 cube for beginners and a great choice for kids. It is predictable, doesn't require precise turning and lets you learn to solve without stress. It also works well as an inexpensive backup cube. If you are aiming for high TPS on 2x2, you will usually move on over time to a model with better corner cutting and a wider tension adjustment range.
