YuXin Little Magic 5x5x5 Magnetic (YLM 5x5 or Little Magic 5x5 M for short) is a budget magnetic 5x5 cube released in 2019. It measures approx. 62.5 mm, weighs approx. 146 g and comes in a bright stickerless colour scheme. It's a good choice for your first "serious" 5x5 if a non-magnetic cube is no longer enough for you, but you don't want to spend money on a flagship model right away.

How it turns

The cube turns smoothly and lightly. The layers move with just a gentle push of a finger or a flick of the wrist, and the feel is pleasant straight out of the box. For its price range, the YLM 5x5 has good corner cutting and handles aggressive turning well: it doesn't catch and has no problems with popping. YuXin uses a special corner design that is meant to reduce popping and improve stability.

The magnets are medium strength. They're strong enough for the layers to settle clearly into place and make it easier to line up the layers when solving faster. However, if you're aiming for fast times, you may find them a bit too weak. If you like a strong, distinct "click" and plenty of control, you'll be happier with a cube that has stronger magnets. Some users notice that the cube turns even better after it has been taken apart and lubed.

Adjustment

Tension is set with adjustment screws. This means you can loosen the cube a little to make it faster and improve corner cutting, or tighten it if you care about stability. The magnet strength cannot be changed.

Who is it for?

For anyone starting out with 5x5, solving casually or looking for an affordable magnetic cube for practice. It's also a sensible gift for a child who can already solve a 3x3 and is looking for a new challenge. The cube is allowed in official competitions. Advanced speedcubers fighting for every second will, sooner or later, reach for a more expensive model with stronger magnets and more adjustment options.
