YuXin Little Magic 8x8x8

YuXin Little Magic 8x8x8 is an affordable 8x8 cube in a stickerless bright colour scheme, released in 2019. Mechanically, it is an exact copy of the HuangLong 8x8 from the same manufacturer. The differences are the box and the matte coloured caps on the pieces. The pieces are made of white plastic, and the colours come from the outer caps. This means you see white plastic instead of colours when turning, and the shades look slightly lighter than on cubes made of coloured plastic.

Design

The mechanism is simple and single-layer. The pieces have very long, extended feet that hold them inside the cube and protect against popping. This design matters on a big cube, where a popped piece usually means a long reassembly. You adjust the tension with the adjustment screws.

How it solves

Turning is light and smooth right out of the box. Corner cutting is good for an 8x8 cube. Big cubes usually don't forgive misaligned layers, but this one handles them better than many others. The main drawback is its large size: 88 mm. The cube can feel uncomfortable in smaller hands, especially during longer solves. Some users also notice that the inner layers turn a little heavier than the outer ones. Newer 8x8 cubes are noticeably smaller and lighter. On the other hand, some people prefer a bigger, more "solid" cube.

Who is it for?

The Little Magic 8x8 is a good first 8x8 cube if you have already mastered 4x4–7x7 and want to try a bigger puzzle without spending much. It also works well for casual solving and as a collection piece. If you plan to time your 8x8 solves regularly, you should rather choose a newer, smaller model. The 8x8 is not a WCA event, so it is not used at official competitions.
