YuXin Little Magic 9x9x9

YuXin Little Magic 9x9x9

Despite its name, this cube is not small. The YuXin Little Magic 9x9x9 measures 90 mm per side and weighs about 484 g, making it one of the larger 9x9 cubes on the market. It comes from the budget Little Magic series and was released in 2019. The cube has no magnets. It is available in a stickerless bright version with a matte (frosted) surface, which gives a slightly better grip on such a large cube.

How it turns

Reviews of the turning are mostly positive. Reviewers say the cube turns smoothly right out of the box and that the layers on all axes move with similar resistance. The factory lube is sometimes applied too generously. Corner cutting is decent, but don't expect the tolerances of flagship big cubes: fast, imprecise turning can lead to catching and lockups. A few users also mention that individual caps may pop off. This is easy to fix, but it's good to know before you buy.

Size matters

Nine layers fit into 90 mm, so each layer is fairly narrow and the whole cube takes both hands to turn. If you have smaller hands, solving can get tiring, and turning the middle layers requires more care. On the plus side, you get clear, large pieces and a striking look that works well for making patterns.

Adjustment

Tension is set with adjustment screws. After a few solves and some extra lube, you can tune the cube: looser for smoother turning or tighter if there is too much play.

Who is it for?

The Little Magic 9x9x9 is an affordable way to get your first 9x9 if you already know the 6x6 or 7x7 and want to try bigger puzzles. It also works well as a collection piece and for making patterns. If you plan fast timed solves or have smaller hands, you may want to consider a smaller, more refined 9x9 model. The 9x9 is not an official WCA competition event.
