YuXin Little Magic 4x4 Pyraminx

YuXin Little Magic 4x4 Pyraminx is the four-layer version of the classic Pyraminx, also known as the Master Pyraminx. It has the same tetrahedron shape, but each face has one extra layer. This adds new pieces and new solving steps. The puzzle is stickerless in a bright colour scheme, with no magnets, no Ball-Core and no UV coating. There is nothing to tweak in the mechanism – you just pick it up and solve.

How it differs from a regular Pyraminx

If you can solve a 3x3 Pyraminx, you already know part of the job: the tips and corners behave in a similar way. What's new are the edges made up of several pieces, which you first need to pair up, and the centres. It is a bit like reduction on a 4x4 cube. Once the edges are paired, you solve the rest much like a regular Pyraminx. The Master Pyraminx is not a WCA event, so this model is more of a new challenge or a collection piece than a puzzle for competition practice.

How it turns

According to user reviews, turning is usually smooth, with a distinct "click" on every move. Some even say this makes the puzzle feel slightly magnetic. You can feel it clearly when a turn lands in the right place. On the other hand, expect lockups when the layers are not aligned precisely, and a few reviews also mention popping. So this is not a puzzle for aggressive, fast turning. It works better when you turn calmly and fully finish each layer before the next move.

For anyone who has already solved the classic Pyraminx and wants something harder in the same shape. It is also a good pick for collectors of Pyraminx-family puzzles. It makes a nice gift for a child who can handle basic brain teasers, too. For your very first Pyraminx, however, choose the regular 3x3 version – it is simpler and you can compete with it.
