YuXin mini Panda 2x2

YuXin mini Panda 2x2 is a smaller version of the YuXin Panda 2x2 figure puzzle. On the outside it looks like a black-and-white panda figure. Inside, though, it has a regular 2x2 mechanism, so you turn it just like a classic 2x2 cube. Once scrambled, the figure loses its shape, and your goal is to restore the panda's silhouette.

How solving works

If you can solve a regular 2x2 cube, you can also solve the mini Panda, because the algorithms are the same. The difference is that instead of matching colors on the faces, you have to match the parts of the figure: the head, ears, paws and body. If you only know the 2x2 from colors, it's a fun change. Without knowing a solving method it will be harder, because the shape gives you fewer clues than colored faces.

How it turns

To be honest: this is not a speedcubing cube. The pieces are only very slightly rounded and the mechanism is simple, so turning feels pleasant but not very smooth. Corner cutting is minimal, and lockups happen easily when you turn faster. It's fine for relaxed solving, but not for timed practice. The cube cannot be disassembled.

Mini or full-size Panda?

The mini Panda measures approx. 48 x 45 x 58 mm and weighs 37 g, so it fits in your hand and is easy to take with you. The standard YuXin Panda 2x2 is more than twice as big (approx. 110 x 105 x 130 mm) and much heavier. Both are solved the same way, so the choice mainly depends on whether you prefer a small gadget or a bigger figure for your shelf.

Who is it for?

For puzzle collectors, gadget lovers and anyone who wants an unusual 2x2 variant. The mini Panda also makes a nice small gift for someone who likes cubes. If you want to solve the 2x2 fast, choose a regular speedcubing cube instead. The mini Panda is not allowed in official competitions.
