YuXin Softball 2x2

YuXin Softball 2x2 is a 2x2 cube shaped like a softball. It has a white surface with red "stitches", just like a real ball. Inside there is a 2x2 cube mechanism, while from the outside the puzzle looks like a sphere. It belongs to the family of shape mods: puzzles that work like a regular cube but have a different shape. In some countries the same model is sold as the YuXin Baseball 2x2.

How to solve the 2x2 ball cube

The cube has no coloured faces, so you don't solve it by colours. Instead, you turn the layers until the stitches join up again into a continuous pattern, just like on a ball. The algorithms are the same as on a regular 2x2. The challenge is to recognise the correct position of the pieces by following the lines rather than the colours. On a white surface this takes more attention. If you can already solve a 2x2, you'll get the hang of it quickly. Beginners can learn the basics on it, but it will be easier to start with a classic coloured 2x2.

Because of its rounded shape, you hold the ball differently than a cube, so turning is less comfortable. This is a puzzle for fun and for your collection, not a cube for setting records or practising TPS. There is also no official WCA event for it. As with any 2x2 cube, don't force the corners to twist, as they can break.
