If you extended every face of a Megaminx into a spike, you would get exactly this puzzle. The YuXin Space Swift Cube (also sold as the Space Swift Megaminx) is a Megaminx shape mod in the form of a twelve-pointed star, also known as a small stellated dodecahedron. It belongs to the Interstellar series, in which YuXin released several star-shaped variations on the Megaminx. We carry it in the stickerless bright version.

A star-shaped Megaminx

Inside is a regular Megaminx mechanism, so the moves and the solving method stay the same. What changes is the look: the face centers are pulled out into spikes, and the corners sit in the recesses between them. Each of the 12 colors goes on one spike, just as each color on a classic Megaminx takes up one face. When the puzzle is solved, every spike shows a single color.

The challenge doesn't come from new algorithms but from the shape. The pieces look different from those on a Megaminx, so you need to get used to recognizing them. The spikes also make the puzzle harder to hold and don't let you rotate it as freely as a regular Megaminx. Buyers praise the smooth turning of the mechanism, and the only drawback they point out is the less comfortable grip.

Who is it for?

For those who can already solve a Megaminx and want a familiar puzzle in a completely different form, and for collectors of minx-type variations. This is not a cube for setting fast times. It has no magnets and is not allowed in WCA competitions. If you want to learn how to solve a Megaminx, it's better to start with the classic version.

The spikes are sharp, so it's best not to leave the puzzle where someone could step on it. Because of its shape, also make sure it doesn't end up in the hands of small children.
