Z-Cube 3x3x3 Sudoku is a classic 3x3 cube that has the digits 1 to 9 on every face in addition to the colors. The mechanism and the solving method are the same as on a regular 3x3 cube. The difference is the goal: at the end, the digits on every face must be in the right order and facing the right way. That is why this cube works well as a variation for someone who can already solve a 3x3, not as a first cube.

What makes it challenging

Every face has the same 1-9 digit layout, so you can solve the cube with your usual method by looking at the colors. In practice, though, there is one catch. The digit on the center piece shows which way it is rotated, something you cannot see on a regular cube at all. Once the colors are solved, some centers may be rotated. To fix this, you need to know a few extra algorithms for rotating centers. It is a good exercise for anyone who has mastered the beginner's method and wants to try something new without buying a completely different puzzle.

Mechanism and build

This is a simple cube with no magnets, no Ball-Core and no tension adjustment system. It is not a model for timed speedcubing and should not be compared with magnetic 3x3 cubes at a similar price. Its strength is the pattern on the faces, not performance. For relaxed, casual solving it is perfectly sufficient. It has a standard size of 56 mm, so it also fits comfortably in the hands of older children.

The cube is available in two body colors: Black and Blue. The mechanism and digit layout are the same in both; only the plastic color differs.

For people who can already solve a classic 3x3 cube and want a new challenge. It also makes a great gift for someone who enjoys both cubes and number puzzles. If you are buying your first cube and are just learning to solve, a regular magnetic 3x3 is a better choice. This model is also not suitable for timed practice.
