Z-cube Pentacle Cube

At first glance it looks like a regular 3x3 cube, but each face has a round piece with a star pattern that can be turned independently of the rest. Z-cube Pentacle Cube is a 3x3 shape mod from Zcube. Instead of ordinary flat centers, you get rotating star discs that change the way the whole cube turns.

How the Pentacle Cube works

The stars on the faces extend into the neighboring layers, so a 3x3 layer can only be turned when the star patterns are lined up correctly. Before each move, you first have to rotate the discs so they don't block the layer. Only then can you make the actual move. In practice, a solve takes much longer than on a regular 3x3 because it requires patience and planning.

The Pentacle Cube is not meant for breaking records or training TPS. It's a puzzle for relaxed solving, where figuring out the star positions matters more than speed. The cube is not allowed in official competitions.

Who is it for?

For cubers who can already solve a 3x3 and want to try something different. The solving order is the same as on a regular cube, so the method you know still works. The challenge is that you have to "unlock" every move first. The cube is also a great pick for shape mod collectors, as it looks good on a shelf. If you're buying a first cube for a child, it's better to start with a classic 3x3. Without knowing the basics, the Pentacle can be discouraging.
