Z-Cube+Tribox Calendar 7x7 M is a magnetic 7x7 cube made jointly by ZCube and Tribox. Instead of plain colours, the faces show the days of the month, the days of the week and the names of the months. By turning the layers, you can set up a calendar for any month and then put the cube on your desk. The body is white and the surface has a matte (frosted) finish.

How the 7x7 calendar works

Seven layers give a grid large enough to lay out a whole month with the dates correctly aligned to the days of the week. To switch to the next month, you have to rearrange a large part of the cube. If you keep it on your desk, once a month you'll need to sit down for a longer solving session. For some that's a perk, for others a chore. The set includes instructions showing how to set up the calendar for a given month.

On a regular 7x7 cube, only the colour of a piece matters. Here every sticker position has its own content, so a specific centre piece has to go to a specific spot. This makes solving a chosen layout harder than a standard 7x7 solve.

Mechanism and turning

The cube has magnets in the pieces. The layers clearly "click" into place, which on a big cube helps reduce overshooting and under-turned layers during wide turns. Customers of other shops mention smooth turning and a nice print. Still, the Calendar is first and foremost a puzzle and a decoration. It doesn't compete with flagship 7x7 speed cubes. For breaking 7x7 records, a cube designed specifically for speedcubing will serve you better.

Who is it for?

For a cuber who can already solve a 7x7, or is just learning, and wants the cube to have a practical purpose once solved. It's also a great gift idea for someone who collects unusual puzzles. It's not suitable as a first-ever cube: it's best to master the 3x3 and smaller big cubes first.
