AJ Double Crazy Pyramid

AJ Double Crazy Pyramid is a shape mod of the classic Pyraminx from the Chinese manufacturer AJ, known for its unusual collector's puzzles. The tetrahedron shape stays the same, but a double circle has been added in the centre of each face. This turns the puzzle from an ordinary Pyraminx into a much more complex puzzle from the Crazy family. The manufacturer released it as a limited edition.

How it differs from a regular Pyraminx

Crazy-type puzzles have circular cuts on their faces that split the pieces into extra parts. Double Crazy models have two such circles instead of one. In practice, this means more pieces to solve, and moves you know from the Pyraminx behave differently than on a standard model. Knowing the regular Pyraminx will help you find your way around, but its algorithms alone won't be enough here. You'll need to work out your own approach or look for a method designed for this particular puzzle.

The Double Crazy Pyramid is another puzzle in this AJ series. The manufacturer modified the Megaminx in the same way in the AJ Double Crazy Megaminx.

Who is it for?

This puzzle is for collectors and anyone who enjoys unusual puzzles and has already mastered the basic ones. It's not a model for timed practice, as it isn't an official WCA event. It's best for someone looking for a long, demanding challenge or wanting a rarer Pyraminx shape mod in their collection. For a child just starting out with cubes, a regular Pyraminx is a better choice. The Double Crazy may discourage someone who is still learning the basics.
