C4U 3x3x4 Cube (Cube4You) is a full-function cuboid, which means every layer turns. Compared with a regular 3x3 cube, it has one extra layer along the vertical axis. The base measures 57 mm, so it sits in your hand much like a standard 3x3 cube, just taller. We sell the black-body version.

How the 3x3x4 cuboid works

The top and bottom faces have a 3x3 layout and turn normally, by 90 degrees. The two middle layers on the vertical axis work the same way. The side faces measure 3x4, so they can only be turned by 180 degrees. This kind of move changes the way you think right away. If you can solve a 3x3, you have a good starting point. Still, you will run into situations that don't exist on a 3x3, and you will need to learn separate algorithms for them.

Turning and feel

Cube4You is a brand known for cuboids and unusual puzzles rather than speed cubes. This model has an older design, and you should keep that in mind. Reviewers agree that out of the box the cube turns smoothly and the feel is slightly scratchy. The internal pieces are fairly angular, so fast or imprecise turning can cause catching and lockups. Forward corner cutting is decent, while reverse corner cutting is practically non-existent.

The factory tension is rather loose. Some users report popping, especially of the centers on the 3x3 faces. Others say the cube never fell apart while they were solving. If it does come apart, it is easy to put back together, and some people recommend lube to improve the turning.

Who is it for?

For anyone who can already solve a 3x3 and wants to try their first cuboid, and for collectors of unusual puzzles. It works better for calm, accurate solving than for high TPS. If you expect the feel of modern magnetic 3x3 cubes, be prepared for a completely different turning experience.
