C4U 3x3x7 Full Functional

C4U 3x3x7 Full Functional is a cuboid from Cube4You (C4U) with seven layers along one axis. Despite all those layers, it has an almost cubic shape and is close in size to a regular 3x3 cube, about 57 mm. The layers along the 7-layer axis are simply thinner. As a result, the puzzle sits nicely in your hand, is easy to take with you and doesn't look like the tall "tower" you usually picture when you think of a 3x3x7. The Full Functional label means it's a true cuboid: you can make every move this geometry allows, with no blocks and no artificial restrictions.

How a 3x3x7 cuboid works

The two 3x3 faces turn just like on a regular cube, by 90 degrees. The 3x7 faces can only be turned by 180 degrees, because after a quarter turn the layer wouldn't fit the rest of the shape. Some of your 3x3 knowledge will come in handy, but you'll need to switch to a different way of thinking: there are extra thin middle layers, and the side moves are limited. According to sellers' descriptions, this version doesn't change shape while you solve it and stays a cuboid after every move.

How it turns

This isn't a speed cube and it has no magnets or tension adjustment system. Out of the box it turns fairly smoothly, but the feel is slightly scratchy, and some users say it's tight. If you turn too aggressively, the layers may catch. Calmer turning and a bit of lube right out of the box make it noticeably more comfortable. It's better for relaxed solving than for racing the clock.

Who is it for?

For someone who solves the 3x3 comfortably and wants to try cuboids without buying a big, awkward puzzle right away. It also makes an interesting addition to a puzzle collection. It's not a good choice as a first cube for a child who is just learning to solve. A classic 3x3 is a better place to start.
